Welcome!
I am a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at Case Western Reserve University, specializing in medical sociology, aging and the life course, and quantitative methods. My scholarship examines how social change, social institutions and place shape inequalities in health and well-being across the life course. I bring more than a decade of research and evaluation experience in Nepal, including work with the Feinstein International Center at Tufts University, Mercy Corps and the World Bank. I am currently a Research Assistant on an NSF-funded project. My research has been published in peer-reviewed outlets including the Journal of Applied Gerontology and Patient Preference and Adherence, and presented at the Gerontological Society of America, the Eastern Sociological Society and the Society for Longitudinal and Life Course Studies.
My current research:
- examines how social change shapes health across cohorts and countries, using comparative and life course approaches, from age-period-cohort trends in blood pressure among U.S. adults to changing patterns of heart disease in South Asia
- investigates rural–urban, regional and geographic differences in health outcomes, including how rurality shapes health, livelihoods and food security
- explores how health beliefs, social support and relationships with physicians shape health and well-being in later life, with attention to differences by gender and marital status

Media
My research sits at the intersection of medical sociology and aging. Current projects examine adherence to physicians' advice, health-related anxiety and doctor–patient communication, diet among the oldest old, and the links between disability, geriatric syndromes and depressive symptoms in later life. I also use age-period-cohort and life course approaches to study blood pressure in U.S. adults and heart disease in South Asia. Earlier work, based in Nepal, studied food security resilience, male out-migration, flood risk and livelihoods, and inter-caste relations.
